New Flooring, Smooth Ceilings, and Fresh Paint in Terryville

This Terryville project covered the second floor: popcorn ceilings taken down and finished smooth, the old laminate flooring replaced with luxury vinyl plank, and the walls and trim repainted. No walls moved — the whole change came from surfaces.

We pulled the old flooring first and worked from the subfloor up. That order matters on a ceiling job: with the floor already out, scraping and skim-coating overhead doesn’t have to be babied, and the new plank goes down into a room that’s already finished. The vaulted section took the most time — two of us working it off extension ladders, skimming the sloped plane in coats, sanding between them, and cutting the finish in around the existing skylight well so the corners stayed crisp.

The new floor runs continuously from the bedroom through the doorway into the upstairs hall and across the stair landing, where it meets the original oak stair nosing that stayed put. Walls went a soft gray-blue against white trim and a smooth white ceiling.
