Torrington, CT

About This Project

This Torrington bathroom had reached the point where cosmetics were no longer an option. The plaster ceiling had let go and come down in sections, exposing the wood lath above, and the walls carried decades of floral wallpaper over a painted wainscot. One thing in the room was worth saving: a classic clawfoot tub with its ring shower.

We took the room back to a sound shell. The failed plaster came down and a new sheetrock ceiling went up, taped and finished smooth, with a new exhaust fan and built-in light where a bare bulb fixture used to be. The wallpaper was stripped, the walls skim-coated flat, and everything primed and painted fresh. New luxury vinyl plank flooring replaced the worn sheet vinyl, and a new vanity and toilet finished the room off.

The clawfoot tub stayed exactly where it was, and now the room around it finally matches. It is the kind of project older Torrington homes need most: not a patch, a proper rebuild of the whole room.
