About This Project

When the old shower came out of this Simsbury bathroom, the framing behind it explained everything. Termites had gotten into the walls, and the only honest fix was taking the wet area down to the studs.

That is what we did. The rebuild started with reframing the termite-damaged walls for long-term stability, then moisture-resistant drywall went up around the new shower. The payoff: a compact shower rebuilt into a bigger, modern walk-in, with a frameless sliding glass door and a surround with built-in shelving. A floating wood vanity brings warmth to the room, and a new toilet and marble-look tile floor complete it.

What is behind the wall decides how long a bathroom lasts. Opening this one up let us catch a structural problem and rebuild it properly from the framing out — the mid-construction photo in the gallery shows exactly what that stage looks like.
